Who is a good trainer?
Yes, good welder can be a good trainer.
To become a good trainer first and foremost thing needed is an attitude and passion for the job. Good trainer should be a good observer. He should be able to read and understand books, documents and other related to welding, obviously he should be a good welder. He should know the psychology of the welders.
A welder if becomes a trainer, can easily teach tbe common mistakes that happens and the students will feel respect and confidence that the trainer knows the job.
QUALIFYING TESTS:
Yes, one person is now trained as a good welder. How to test him? Qualification tests according to different codes and standards are to be given simulating the situation that they will face in an actual job environment.
JOB FOR THE NEWELY TRAINED WELDER:
Getting job for a welder, who just came out of his training, will be very difficult. Organisations should arrange job for these welders in their project as trainee welders, so that the welder will get experience and the organisation will get a technician on low cost.
SUPERVISING THE NEWELY TRAINED WELDER:
Each day and each job will be new for a new welder. So the entire works of the new welder to be monitored properly. Toolbox talk is to be given for the welder for each job. After completing the job the welder has to summon his experience about the job, the difficulties faced etc if any. This will improve the confidence of the welder.
WHAT ARE TO BE TAUGHT FOR A WELDER:
A welder cannot be taught for all the permutation and combination of situations that is going to come. But the syllabus should cover the minimum of the following.
1. Materials:
The common materials used in tbe industry.
Identifying those materials.
Common defects that occurs in each material.
2. Welding process
Different welding process.
Approach for different welding process.
Approach for welding different materials.
Common defects that occurs with each welding process.
3. Welding machine
Basics of electricity.
Basics of different welding machine's.
Common faults that may happen in welding machine.
How to do minor repairs of welding machine.
Basics on welding cables, welding holders, welding torch etc.
(Getting trained on more than one welding process will increase the employability of the welder.)
4. Welding consumables.
Electrodes
Filler wires
Materials and different electrode/filler wire combination
Welding gases
Tungsten electrode
5. Welding procedures
Welding procedure specifications
Qualification ranges of thickness and diameter
Qualified welding process
Job cleaning, interpass cleaning etc
Preheating and preheating.
Post weld heat treatment.
6. Process related to welding
Using a grinding machine
Open and closing of gas cylinders
Connecting earth clamp
7. Safety
Proper use of PPE,s
Work at height
First aid practices
Safety precautions towards heat and light
Working in confined space
Electrical safety
8. Attending repairs
Every welder to be trained for attending the defects in the weld joints.
Application and interpretation of Dye Penetrant Testing to be taught so that the welder himself can check and rectify the weld repairs.
9. Facing interviews
How to appear for a job interview.
How to make a good biodata.
Cerficate and other credentials for an interview.
10. The Do' s and Dont' s
No to alcohol, smoking or any type of drugs.
Drink water at proper intervals .
Have healthy food habits.
First aid kit with welder with eye drops, bandage etc. as precautionary measures.
